Summary: Cancer just...sucks. It can destroy families, ravage the lives of any individual, and just leave nothing but sorrow and destruction in its wake. No one should be forced to go through it, but they do. And sometimes, the only way to escape the trauma of such things is to go somewhere else. A world of fantasy. A means of seeing the truth, but in a way that doesn't totally browbeat you with reality. And so, we make monsters.

History: Connor O'Malley's mom is dying of cancer, and he has no means of coping with it. In fact, he hates himself for wanting it all to be over, even if it means his mom's death. However, during his struggles, a monster comes to him. A massive being made from the wood of a yew tree that he remembers from his childhood. The monster offers him a chance to find peace and perhaps even save his mother, telling him stories and encouraging him to take action at many points in time. But whether the monster wants Connor to get better or not is another matter entirely.

Final Fate: In time, the monster reveals that he's not here to make Connor's mom feel better, but rather, so that the boy gets better. His oftentimes downer-ish stories, his threatening behavior, it was all a means to help Connor confront the truth that his mom would never make it, but he has to savor the moment. And soon, it is heavily implied that the monster was in fact the ghost of Connor's grandfather, having come back to help his grandson during his darkest hour.

Powers/Abilities: Can appear at any time at any place, and is not noticed by anyone.

Weakness: None.

Scariness Factor: 3.5-The monster isn't quite as threatening as one would think at first. Liam Neeson's calm deep voice and the beast's humanoid proportions prevent him from being too much of a menace. But then he gets furious, and looks like a genuine demon. Still, despite being rough around the edges, this creature ultimately wants the best for Connor, even if it's not what he wants.

Trivia: -If you can believe it, the stand-in actor for the monster was Tom Holland. Now just try looking at this intimidating being and try not to imagine that skinny-looking youth skulking around like a titan.

-Liam Neeson had previously done the voice work for Aslan the lion from the "Chronicles of Narnia" film franchise that began in 2005.
